We eventually leave the nuclear exhibits and drive to our primary destination, the Craters of the Moon National Monument. It was an area of intense volcanic activity a long time ago. The entire countryside is flat, black, and barren, except for the mountains to the north. We’re standing on a cinder cone looking out. The 2 small “bumps” to the left are “splatter cones”.
