At the top of Lassen Peak is this strange looking “Porta-Potty”.
Actually it’s a radio repeater. It picks up all the faint radio transmissions from the rangers out in the field and repeats the signal back to the main headquarters. It’s the only way everyone can stay in constant radio communications. There’s solar cells to power it, mounted on a post just off to the right.
