In August of 2009, we went to Idaho. The main purpose of our trip was to backpack in the Sawtooth Mtns near Stanley, ID. Along with the backpack we wanted to spend a day at Craters of the Moon National Monument down in the southern end of the state. While down there we picked up a tourist brochure about how early nuclear reactor tests were performed nearby and so we ended up visiting the first nuclear breeder reactor installation in Idaho. From Arco, we headed north thru the Sun Valley area to Stanley which was our jumping off point for our backpack Following our backpack, we continued heading north thru Montana's Bitterroot Valley to Missoula where we headed west into the NezPerce-Clearwater National Forest. There, near the town of Selay was our 60 foot tall rental fire tower "Lookout Butte". We stayed there 2 nights before heading south to Riggins, ID where we took a jetboat ride on the Snake River thru Hell's Canyon. After that it was a quick return to the airport in Boise for our flight back home to Maryland.
