Our next tour stop was the Falkirk wheel. It is the world’s only rotating boat lift. The Falkirk Wheel links the Forth & Clyde Canal to the Union Canal 114 ft above. The structure rotates about the center, raising the boat in the lower chamber up to the top, while the boat in the upper chamber is lowered to the bottom. The structure replaced 11 locks. We got to watch it operate.
